    • Support / Psychoeducation Group for caregivers of individuals with Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a debilitating disorder. The truly tragic fact is that the family members often suffer as much, if not more, from the behavioural & social symptoms that the patient is afflicted by. Much of the distress that the patient & the relatives / caregivers experience is on account of the interpersonal conflicts they have due to poor understanding of the reasons of the maladaptive behaviour.

Often, neither of the parties are to blame. But, both manifest frustration in their behaviour. This can often be alleviated, or prevented even, if the relatives are made aware about the nature of the illness, and the reasons for the altered thought process & the altered behaviour.

These group meetings are meant to educate all the family members / caregivers about schizophrenia. Our doctors & counsellors explain in detail various aspects about the symptoms, behavioural aspects, social & occupational difficulties that the illness causes to the individual suffering from it, as well as its impact on the family & caregivers.

They also help understand the various strategies & ways of coping with the challenges that the patient & the family face on account of the illness.

The support & shared experience that the group members derive from each other contributes significantly to increased confidence in dealing with the illness.

These group meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month, from 5pm to 6pm, at Mindspace Clinic.

These meetings are free for all the caregivers, but, preferably, with prior reservation / appointment.
